The Harmonic

In a good history book by a leading light in the field of history, I recall Michael Grant saying Pythagoras was 'weird'. This book is The Rise of the Greeks and he does almost admit he is not qualified to judge the great sage, which is more than many academics will allow. None of us should expect he could judge 'bi-location' or the musical octaves and their connection to the Singing of the Spheres. However, it would be nice to see these researchers (are not historians supposed to research?) ask people who are knowledgeable about alchemy and present their opinion if they are willing to call Pythagoras 'weird'. Much of what Pythagoras learned from the Great Pyramid and in his healing of people was involved with harmonics and the pentagon-dodecahedron that understands the Earth Energy Grid. He is not the only person who used these secret knowledge systems. The re-routing of the river by the followers of Pythagoras (in Croton/Bruttium, Italy) may have had something to do with this secret knowledge. This was almost considered a legend until recent archaeologic digs found the site of Sybaris, which was aligned on the side of Etruria against the Bruttii and other Kelts of the north. This important point in history led to the creation of a Roman Empire and Rome itself. So much for the statements of Masons, who say they are Pythagoreans and teach his Golden Section, yet maintain they are not political.

In discussing the harmonics of Omega stations placed around the planet by the United States, Bruce Cathie writes in The Earth Energy Grid:

"It at once became obvious that the position was an ideal one. The station fitted on to the grid as though one had been tailor-made for the other (see map). I produced the grid map years before Omega was ever heard of, and I have no claims to being clairvoyant. It can be no accident that the site fits in so neatly with the grid system; I'm certain that the station was planned years ago by those in charge of the earth-bound project to explore the grid system.

TArk of the Covenant was an arc transmitter developed for the purpose of making maps of the whole world and an ancient Morse code system. The Hadji Ahmed map from over 12,500 years ago may not be the best proof but you should know about it (I do think it has parts that are the ancient secrets of the North American traders but is weak in other areas.). It shows the Bering Land Bridge as it was and yet we didn't know this until 1958. It has been around for 500 years or so and is traced from earlier maps. Given the receptivity of quartz on sceptres in electrical storms I can easily see the piezo electric flashes therefrom would have led to what the engineers can reconstruct using the Bible as their guide. Such harmonic or etheric events would have been great magic in the distant reaches of human cultural evolution. The Field Theory of Faraday and Tesla is a verdant open and welcoming minefield for science to explore today. Cathie deals with a little of Tesla in the next work that is also researchable in Christopher Dunn's book titled Giza Power Plant.

"The whole system acted as a gigantic electrical pump, and enabled Tesla to cause massive discharges of energy to oscillate between the earth and the surrounding atmosphere. During his experiments with this fantastic piece of equipment he caused bolts of lightning to issue forth from the copper ball {Numa had electrical devices in Roman times that are in the British Museum} into the air, and manmade thunder to scare the living daylights out of the populace for miles around. He finally succeeded in burning out the generating plant at Colorado Springs due to electrical overload placed upon it. This did not, of course, make him too popular with the local council, and he had to carry out extensive repairs to the plant before he was able to continue with his work.

He discovered that a rate of 150,000 oscillations a second, which produced electrical pulsations with a wavelength of 2000 metres, was necessary to produce the effects he required in the transmission of usable power through the earth.

If we convert the wavelength of 2000 metres to a minute of arc, or nautical mile equivalent on the earth's surface the result is 1.0792237. The experimental value was therefore very close to 1.08 minutes of arc, or one twenty thousandth of the circumference of the earth, 21600 minutes divided by 1.08.

The exact number of cycles to obtain a 1.08 minute wavelength would be 149892.18 per second. This would tune the transmitter in harmony with the world grid system.

In the early stages of my work I wondered why I could not obtain pure harmonics from all my calculations when dealing with physical substance - that is, exactly 144 for the light harmonic etc. Tesla stated that it was not possible to obtain pure resonance or harmonic vibrations, because if this were so than matter itself would disintegrate. A certain amount of resistance must be allowed for it to prevent complete destruction of physical substance.

He tested his theory of power transmission by lighting 200 incandescent lamps at a distance of twenty-six miles from the laboratory while the oscillator was operating - the energy being extracted directly from the earth. Each lamp required about 50 Watts of power - a total of 13 hp. The claimed efficiency was 95 percent.

THE CENTURY MAGAZINE ran an article in the June edition of 1900 stating comments made by Tesla regarding his Colorado experiments: 'However extraordinary the results shown may appear, they are but trifling compared with those obtainable by apparatus designed on these same principles. I have produced electrical discharges the actual path of which, from end to end, was probably more than 100 feet long; but it would not be difficult to reach lengths 100 times as great. I have produced electrical movements occurring at the rate of approximately 100,000 horsepower, but rates of one, five or ten million horsepower are easily practicable. In these experiments, effects were developed incomparably greater than ever produced by any human agencies and yet these results are but an embryo of what is to be.'

Tesla now had all the information he required to set up a station to transmit power to any point in the world, but before we move on to discuss his later activities let us have a closer look at the site he chose in Colorado where he tested all his theories and found positive proof of the harmonic structure of nature. In one of his unpublished articles he had stated in part that: 'Long ago he (man) recognized that all perceptible matter comes from a primary substance, of a tenuity beyond conception, filling all space, the Akasa or Luminiferous Ether, which is acted upon by all life-giving prana or creative force, called into existence, in never-ending cycles, all things and phenomena. THE PRIMARY SUBSTANCE, THROWN INTO INFINITESIMAL WHIRLS OF PRODIGIOUS VELOCITY, BECOMES GROSS MATTER; THE FORCE SUBSIDING. THE MOTION CEASES AND MATTER DISAPPEARS, REVERTING TO THE PRIMARY SUBSTANCE.'

His experiments had shown him (as I had found in my own bumbling way) that matter was nothing more than a complex matrix of wave-forms locked together by harmonic resonance. The energy inherent in matter could be tapped if the secret of the geometric structure of the wave-forms could be broken....

So: for the theoretical latitude position we have:

Distance to the North Pole = 51.174548 degrees

Distance from the equator = 38.825453

Difference = 12.349095

Divided by 6 = 2.05818225 units

Multiplied by 2 = 4.116365

Squared = 16.9444

The harmonic 169444 is related to MASS, Gravity and COMMUNICATION and is demonstrated many times in my later works. The method of calculation also follows a regular pattern. The great circle displacement between longitude 104◦ 52' 22" west and 90◦ 00' 00" west, at the same latitude, also sets up an important harmonic. The value: 694.44 minutes of arc. This is the reciprocal harmonic of the Grid speed of light, 144000 minutes of arc per Grid second, in free space.

Tesla must have been well aware of the importance of the position he chose, but kept the reasons a closely guarded secret.

It is interesting to note that in this same area the military have chosen to set up the greatest electrical complex in the world - the North American Defence Command, NORAD. I am not telling tales out of school here because other publications have already pointed this fact out.

... From a public point of view though, one of the reasons becomes clear why the work and discoveries of Tesla remain suppressed: 'the military application of his discoveries has been considered far more important than the welfare of the ordinary citizen of the world.'" (13)

Tesla also said that he had developed a death ray that could kill at a great distance. Lt. Col. Thomas E. Bearden USAF (Ret.) has developed many of Tesla's discoveries and the applications may be worse than just a simple death ray or protective field. Some applications include what is being done in mind control at a distance. Tesla developed the Unified Force Field which I think might be part of what is going on near Taos, New Mexico. It was being worked on by the Russians near Korea in the mid-80s according to a Chicago Tribune article I read. They talked about a Korean airliner that flew through suddenly extreme cold space. His work with the Philadelphia Experiment led to age regression through Time Travel but it was very dangerous.

In an earlier business incarnation of mine I employed Leposova Tesla. She was proud of her ancestor but like most people she knew little about the science behind his work which includes the invention of the radio. The U.S. Patent Office gave him the patent 25 years after his supporters sued for him and took it away from Marconi. He developed AC current and the Niagara Falls project that he had dreamed about for most of his life. There is a Museum on Goat Island in the Niagara River that honours him. There are many things of the world around you that have been part of his technological legacy including Neon lights, but this author is right about the far greater potential applications and the military or government uses or misuses. I find the actions of the Rothschild front man (J. Pierpont Morgan) especially reprehensible in his treatment of Tesla's inventions and the steel alloy or other knowledge of Col. Churchward that they grabbed as well. Tesla died poor and some say his heart was broken but it was not due to a woman. He never had relations with another human.

His biography, the book named White Dove is one I enjoyed. There are rumours that Tesla did not die as stated in this book. If you follow the career of John von Neumann who was involved with Tesla in the Philadelphia Experiment then you might understand why this could be true. I include the recent use of ancient knowledge to demonstrate it is not mere fabrication or myth such as it has been characterized as being by the normative academics. You cannot read too much about the life and work of Nicola Tesla.

From what source in history could these sciences have come? Where is the proof?

The Gothic Cathedrals of Europe and their imitations throughout the world have been designed to include the knowledge of the Great Pyramid, and these harmonic effects that are focussed through the physical placement of architectural forms. The Templars built them under Papal passport in a time when no one else could move freely around that oppressive part of the world which now views itself so highly. I am no longer amazed by the likes of Yonaguni and a semi-step Pyramid there which might date to 17,000 years ago. I know there was a worldwide culture that you should know was able and adept in matters of the soul and spirit. We all must learn from our soul. I think Jesus knew 'We are all the children of God', as well as any adept.

When he was dying I do not believe he said 'My God, why hast thou forsaken me?' Malta and the Tarim Basin join Puma Punku near Tiahuanaco as major research centers for initiates to study as I see it. How many such adept observatories exist and how many initiates or schools there were is anyone's guess. Hundreds of foreigners residing here are starting up new businesses in Panama every year.
Panama offers many opportunities for business entrepreneurs. You can start a bar, restaurant, retail shop, hotel, bed & breakfast, provide tour-guides or professional services.
Maybe you are thinking about opening a new business full time? Or, you are retired and thinking of passing the time by engaging in a part-time business.
Whichever you do, Panamanian laws must be understood and complied with. That's why the following information will be useful for every reader who is thinking about starting a business in Panama.

LEGAL BUSINESS STRUCTURE
Your first consideration is to decide what type of business structure to use.

There are 3 normal business entities here in Panama:
Sole Proprietor where you and your spouse & family operate a business as sole owners.
Partnership where you team up with one or more persons in running the business.
Corporation where you register with the government as a company issuing stocks, having a Board of Directors and corporate officers.
While a sole proprietorship can be an oral agreement between close family members, the other two entities need the assistance of a Panamanian lawyer. That's because legal documents need to be prepared forming a Partnership or Corporation. If they are wrongly prepared, they will be legally null and void causing a business legal nightmare for its members.

Let's examine the different legal structures here in Panama:

Corporation (Sociedad Anonima)
Corporations are formed under the Law No. 32 of 1927 and the Commercial Code (Decree-Law No. 5 of 1997, Article 5).
A Panamanian corporation is formed by two persons (called Subscribers) or Nominees (who act on behalf of absent foreigners) who execute legal documents called the Articles of Incorporation. Those documents are filed with the Panama Public Registry office. After the corporation is formed, only one shareholder will be required.
Corporate shares are issued which can be of various classes, can have par value or not, may be officially registered, or can be discreet Bearer shares.
The corporation must have a resident Registered Agent (Panamanian lawyer).
There must be at least three Directors whose names must be in the Articles of Incorporation. Any changes of Directors must also be filed with the Public Registry. Unless the Articles are changed or the corporation merges or dissolves there will be no other filing requirements.

Foreign Corporation
If you already have a corporation in another country, it can do business in Panama by filing the following documents at the Public Registry Office:

1. A notarized Spanish translation of the Articles of Incorporation;

2. Board of Directors minutes authorizing the Panamanian registration;

3. Copies of the most recent financial statements;

4. A certificate from a Panamanian Consul confirming that the company is organized according to the laws of its place of incorporation;

5. Notification of the transfer of capital to the Panamanian operation.

General Partnership
General Partnerships are permitted in Panama. As with most countries, the partners will have unlimited civil liability. That means every partner can be sued even if only one of them commits an error in the course of business.

Limited Partnership
Limited Partnerships (called Sociedad de Responsibilidad) are also permitted in Panama. They are governed by the Commercial Code and Law No. 24 of 1966.
There may be from 2 to 20 partners with no restrictions as to their nationalities or domicile. Their Capital must be at least $2,000 up to $500,000. The names of the partners must be registered with the Public Registry Office including the amount of Capital each contributed. Each partner's civil liability for the Partnership's debts is limited to the amount subscribed to but unpaid. If the Partnership appoints an independent administrator, his/her name must also be registered. No meetings are required if the Partnership has 5 members or less. Otherwise, a meeting must be held at least once a year. There are no requirements for annual returns or filing of any accountings.

An alternative to a Sole Proprietorship is to create an Individual Limited Proprietorship (Empressa Individual de Responsibilidad Limitada). This is set up in the same manner as a Limited Partnership except having only one member. The individual transfers his/her assets to the business. Business civil liability is limited to the amount of the committed assets.

Civil Partnership
A Civil Partnership (Sociedad Civil) is allowed by the Commercial Code and Law No. 24 of 1966. The liability of the partners is unlimited. This type of partnership is often selected by professionals such as lawyers and accountants.

Commandite Company
The Commandite Company (Sociedad en Commandita) is a hybrid partnership and corporation also governed by the Commercial Code and Law No. 24 of 1966. At least one partner must have unlimited liability, while the liability of the limited partners is limited to the amount of capital subscribed. This type of legal structure is seldom used in Panama.

GOVERNMENT PERMITS & LICENSES
Once you have either formed a Panamanian Corporation, or a Partnership, or are acting as a Sole Proprietor, you will need to register your business with the government before opening for business.

The 6 steps provided below are the requirements for registering your business with the national and local governments:

1. Income Tax Registry
This is called "Registro Fiscal" with the Panamanian government.
The Panamanian government has a website explaining what is necessary to register in Spanish. Go to the govt. website at: http://www.dgi.gob.pa
This is the government Revenue (Tax) Service where your company receives its income tax id number called the Direccion General de Ingresos.
You will need to keep records of income and expenses and file an annual income tax (or corporate tax) return and pay any taxes owed.

2. Commercial License
Another Panama government website will give you information regarding getting a commercial license in Spanish at: http://www.mici.gob.pa
This Ministry is called the MINISTERIO de COMERCIO e INDUSTRIAS, translated as the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
This is otherwise known as your Business License. Every business in Panama is required to have one.

3. Municipal Taxes
After getting your Panamanian government licenses, you need to register with your local municipality in order to pay your municipal taxes.

4. Social Security Number
Then you must go to the Registro Patronal de la Caja de Seguro Social (CSS) to get a Social Security number for your business and for yourself.

5. Sanitary Permit
If your business deals with food or beverages, you will need to get Permisos Sanitarios with the Ministerio de Salud.
That translates as a Health Certificate from the Ministry of Health for permission to operate a sanitary business.
Every employee (including owners & management) who prepare or serve food or beverages (or are in the vicinity of food or beverage preparation or service) must obtain two different Permits. One requires a medical & dental examination at a public hospital. The other is issued after attending a two day health & safety course.

6. Fumigation Certificate
Every business which is open to the public must be fumigated. You will need to hire a private fumigation company every four months to fumigate against ants, roaches, and other bugs.
You must then present a receipt from the fumigation company and obtain a Fumigation Certificate from your local municipality. This must be publicly displayed at your business entrance.

Hiring Employees
Now that you have obtained all of the required government permits and licenses, you are now ready to hire employees.
For those of you thinking of hiring your expat buddies, Panama limits a company's work force to a maximum of 10% foreigners (non-Panamanian). Panamanian laws require that 90% of a company's employees be Panamanian citizens, or married to a Panamanian, or foreign persons residing here for at least 10 years.

But, there are exceptions:

1. Required technical or specialized staff unavailable in Panama increases your quota to 15% foreigners. You can also petition the Ministry of Labor for a higher quota.

2. Companies having less than 10 employees can employ 1 foreigner.

3. Companies can employ foreign Managers and Supervisors when the company does business abroad from Panama with prior approval by the Ministry of Labor.

You must obtain a work permit from the Ministry of Labor for every foreign worker.

Panama's Labor Laws
The Labor Code of 1971 deals with Labor Relations including the rights and duties of employers and employees. "Subordination" is the key concept of the law. Any relationship where one person is subordinate to another falls within the law. It makes no difference whether the relationship is or is not described as "employment".

There are certain basic employee rights which must be followed:

1. Written Employment Contract

2. Minimum Wage

3. Maximum Hours

4. Paid Vacation Time

5. Firing Employees

Employee Contracts
You must have your employees sign a written employment contract called an Inscripcion Contratos con trabajadores.
You must file two copies of the contract with the Ministerio de Trabajo y Desarrollo Laboral.
Employers can easily terminate the employee during the first two years. After that, employees have greater protection under the law. The law lists "just causes" for dismissal. Unlawful dismissals can result in minimal compensation payments. Both parties can contract for "fixed terms".
Minimum wage levels vary according to the employee's seniority.

Vacations: There are 11 public holidays per year. In addition, employees are entitled to a 30 day vacation every year.
13th Month: The law also requires a 30 day paid bonus every year which is known as "the 13th month". This bonus is estimated at one-salary day for every 11 days of work. The 13 month bonus is paid in 3 equal installments: April 15th, August 15th, and December 15th every year.

Unions
Unions are allowed in Panama. Unions can collectively negotiate on behalf of the employees. Strikes are lawful under defined circumstances after a majority vote of the member employees. Conciliation is mandatory before a strike can occur. However, only around 11% of the private sector employees are unionized.

Leasing Office or Business Premises
Panama's laws regarding leasing commercial space is similar to most English speaking countries.

1. It needs to be in Writing.

2. It needs to properly describe the location of the pre-mises.

3. It needs to address the amount and frequency of the lease payments, length of the lease period, whether there is a Security and/or Damage deposit, who pays for gas, water, electricity, and repairs. It will also contain provisions for late rent payments, tenant property damage, and renewal of the lease term.

4. It must be signed by the property owners (or legally authorized representatives) and the tenants.

5. All signatures must be Notarized before a Notary Public.

There are many more terms and conditions which should be included in a standard commercial lease which is why you should consult with a Panamanian attorney before signing one prepared by your landlord.

Business Bank Account
Even if you are a sole proprietor, you should never co-mingle your personal funds with business monies. That is why you'll need to open a bank account for your business.
Partnerships and Corporations definitely need to open separate Business or Corporate Bank Accounts.

When you open an account for a corporation, partnership, or a business most banks require the following information and documentation:

1. Most banks require a personal interview, while some banks may allow a telephone interview.

2. A clear copy of the account's Signatory and each corporate Director's Passport (must include the photo & personal information page, and Panama entry stamp page).

3. A clear copy of a second photo id (such as a driver's license or national id card).

4. Two bank references for each Director and account Signatory. These references must entail the satisfactory conduct of the account holder and that the banking relationship had been ongoing for a minimum of 2 years. It would be helpful if the references also confirm the person's residential address. Many Panamanian banks require the references be specifically addressed to that bank's branch. Some banks may accept only one bank reference letter (especially if you have done all of your banking with only one bank).

5. Two professional references for each Director and account Signatory. These references may be written by one's accountant, lawyer, stock broker, insurance broker, real estate broker, or employer. They should be written on their company letterhead. These must include the duration and nature of their business relationship with the applicant. Only an Original letter will be accepted.

6. Proof of Address: You must provide a copy of a utility bill (phone, water, electricity, cable TV, or Internet service) which contains your name and address.

7. A "Company Profile" letter must be submitted which briefly describes the type of business the account holder will engage in. This will include the location of the business, the products or services you are selling, the nature and expected volume of business, the origin of the funds to be deposited, an estimate of the monthly or annual amount of funds to be deposited, and the reason for opening a bank account in Panama.

It will help if your Panamanian lawyer accompanies you to the bank in order to make sure the process goes smoothly.

Once all of these documents have been received, they will be forwarded to the bank's Compliance Officer who reviews the entire application to insure no money laundering will occur.
This process will go smoother and may have less required documents if you first go to the Panamanian bank where you already have a personal account as they already know you.

Taxes
Now that you are licensed, moved into your commercial space, hired employees and have a bank account; you need to worry about taxes.

Conclusion
There are many legal documents, Government contract law and you have to follow in starting a business in Panama. Therefore, you should check with a lawyer in raft people I know, the business of Panama, labor, tax and real estate law before joining the company is consulted.

After eight years of research in the records of the War Department, the State Department, the archives of the individual states, as well as records of the Spanish and the British in West Florida, the author first published this collection of the passports and travel records in 1982. These documents were issued to individuals and families traveling or migrating into the Mississippi Valley area and include all known travel documents for the period of 1770-1823. Each entry gives the names of the passport recipients, the official granting the passport, the date the passport was executed and other identifying particulars. In addition the history of the passport process as it affected the various jurisdictions under consideration is explained in detail. Bridging the gap between history and genealogy, this book includes extensive citations and notes. Coupled with a bibliography of sources and a complete name index, this volume possibly represents the most complete source of information for this time period.

Rent a flat in Hong Kong - Useful information on some of Hong Kong law takeover

Over the past few years, Hong Kong has seen an ever more increase in the number of expatriates settling in this unique and inspiring city, mostly due to the increasing search for more outside talent from both local and international companies. Upon arrival, one of the most important tasks to tackle for these individuals' involves renting an apartment. The procedures involved and tenancy laws related can be very different to other cities or countries. This article seeks to illustrate some basic real estate procedures and more importantly tenancy laws involved which I feel are important to know.

Real Estate Agent:

After the establishment of the 'Estate Agents Authority' in 1997, also commonly known as 'EAA', real estate agents require to be licenced in order to do real estate work. Most agents will provide you with a name card as soon as you meet them and their licence number should clearly be displayed on their name card. Licenced estate agents should also have in possession their official licence card.

The Estate Agency Form:

Prior to viewing properties, (sometimes after), agents require the client to sign a typical estate agency form which lists all the apartments to view or already viewed. If you have signed this form and for some personal reason you are not content with the agent's service and decide to rent an apartment on the list with a different agent from a different company, you maybe required to pay the previous agent's company full commission as well as your new one. If you do not pay, you may be liable to further penalty. Request to sign this form is standard practice set by the 'Estate Agents Authority, (EAA)'.

Important Things To Check Inside The Apartment:

By Hong Kong law, landlords are required to provide appliances, fixtures and fittings in safe and good working condition. Although some agents will check this for you, it is best you check also as you are better to determine what is safe or good working for yourself.

During the viewing process, check for any very obvious pest problems. Having a pest problem during your stay which results in nuisance to neighbours, as a fault to your own bad hygiene may cause you to be kicked out of the apartment by the landlord. This is due to the fact that such negligence is a breach of some terms in Hong Kong's tenancy law. Further to being kicked out of the property, you may find the landlord deducting amounts from your security deposit in order to fix the problem. However if the fault is not yours, the landlord should be the one to pay.

Check for any leakages. If these are evident, get the landlord to fix the problem before you move in and by law the landlord should pay in order to satisfy the term of providing a safer environment for occupancy. A strict but basic law which applies to all types of property involves noise control. Hong Kong is regarded as a small city and due to the nature of how residential buildings are built and the fact that most people live very close to one another; noise can travel easily to neighbouring apartments. For night time, noise volume should be reduced to a level which does not affect neighbours by 11pm. Disturbances after 11pm is a big no no and neighbours can call the building's management office to deal with the case. In the event you proceed to ignore neighbours or management offices' request to quieten down, you may find the police knocking on your door. Creating such nuisance is a breach of some tenancy law and the landlord can kick you out for such actions if made on a continuous basis.

Pay rent on time. The tenancy agreement will most definitely include a term which requests you to pay rent on time and the date to pay should clearly be shown. Usually a small period of time for lateness is allowed for postage time or time for transfers to be completed. This time period is usually also clearly shown on the tenancy agreement. By law the landlord can kick you out for not paying on time and you might lose your security deposit as a result.

Tenancy Agreement:

After both parties have signed the tenancy agreement, both parties also share the cost of stamp duty. By law you must pay for this stamp duty as it is compulsory tax, whether you hold a Hong Kong Identity card or overseas passport. It is useful to know also that in the event of any major problems and one party ends up suing the other, an un-stamped tenancy agreement maybe regarded as a void agreement when presented in front of a judge.

Early Termination:

A Tenancy Agreement will most definitely clearly illustrate the agreed terms of stay, such as a 2-year contract with 12 months fixed period. In this example there is usually a break clause where the tenant can terminate after 12-months by providing a 2-month written notice to the landlord to break lease. In this case, minimum lease is 14 months. If for whatever reason you decide you want to terminate the contract or leave the apartment before the fixed period is over, by law the tenant may have to pay rent for at least the rest of the fixed months remaining. In some cases, landlord may expect rent for remaining months up to the 24th month.

Such early termination is not recommendable and therefore you should carefully plan your stay and have put good thought into the lease term for the landlord to accept and then sign the contract. In some cases of early termination, you could avoid having to compensate the rent for remaining months left if you can find an alternative tenant, such as a friend or colleague to move-in as soon as you leave. The landlord would have to accept the new tenant and a new tenancy agreement then needs to be signed between the landlord and new tenant.

Most of us have already read the myriad of articles about Panama, not to mention the “About Panama” section on the websites of every real estate agency promoting property in the region.

There is no doubt that Panama possesses numerous advantages, including its strategic geographic location, incentive program for retirees and a relatively low-cost of living, amongst others. However, some of the reasons that I particularly enjoy living in Panama cannot be when searching for the most obvious reasons, such as the Panama Canal (After showing my 4th visitor the Miraflores Locks, the outing becomes slightly monotonous) or its proximity to Miami (I’ve never been to Miami in my life!). Certain pleasures can only be recognized after living in Panama as a foreigner for some time.

Though I appreciate the similarities that Panama and the “Western World” share, I also cherish the differences, since they are what makes my life here truly unique and exciting.

Here are 13 reasons why Panama makes life so interesting:

1. Casco Viejo
-Casco Viejo is 100% different from the towering high rises scattered along Balboa Avenue. Casco Viejo has an interesting blend of architectural styles, most notably ornate Spanish- and French-influenced buildings. However, in addition to the amazing views and unique architecture, there is always something quirky going on in “the Casco”! My roommate is the president of Panama 9º80º, a lifestyle and travel magazine about Panama. Her offices are in Casco Viejo and I get an absolute kick out of dropping her off some mornings. It isn’t often that I get to laugh so hard I almost wet myself at 7:30 a.m. Much better than coffee! (Okay, that was an exaggeration. Sorry coffee.)

One of my favorite “Casco moments” occurred one morning as I was dropping my friend off at work. As we turned the corner onto Avenida A, we saw a little boy of about 7 years old peeing in the street. What made this pee different was that he was not facing the wall or partially hidden amongst the narrow alleyways, but was rather on the edge of the sidewalk, practically in the street, facing the traffic! As we neared the situation, we saw a projectile yellow liquid spurting from his body and said, “That can’t be!” However, it was. To this day, that little boy and his “necessities” still put a smile on my face.

2. Wine
-South American wine, from Chile and Argentina, is much less expensive than in the United States. However, who said you can have your cake and eat it too.

My friend and I were succumbing to our vices one night, and went to buy wine and ice cream at El Rey supermarket. As we were checking out, the $3.50 appeared on the screen as the price for the wine. I said to my friend, “How great is it to live in a country where a good bottle of wine is $3.50!?” Then, the ice cream came, and $8.50 appeared. My friend and I were in utter shock and disbelief. Since then, we have sought out other, less expensive means to satisfy a sweet tooth.

3. Sushi Itto
-Sushi delivered to your front door…Do I need to say anything else? If you think that there isn’t sushi in Panama, then you are in for a delightful surprise. Sushi Itto, in my humble, sushi snob opinion, is the best delivery sushi in Panama. Their Philadelphia rolls and Edamame are extremely scrumptious.

What’s even more interesting is when I’m walking to work or walking my mini schnauzer and the Sushi Itto delivery guy honks and waves as he zooms past on his little red moto. It must be a small world after all. Or, I order a lot of sushi!

4. American Dollar
-This is a commonly cited “reason” for why Panama is so great, and I agree whole heartedly!

For the foreigner, especially Americans, it is great because it doesn’t become “Monopoly money.” It is easy to be aware of exactly how much you are spending. There is no labor-intensive addition, subtraction, division or multiplication involved to figure out the price of a soda. So, in Panama, it is easy to grasp the value of what we purchase, instead of throwing away our Monopoly money at any and every chance we get. This is especially useful if you are off to the casinos!

15. Patacones
-Patacones are twice-fried plantain patties and incredibly delicious. I had not discovered them until my arrival in Panama, and I am a self-proclaimed patacon addict!

5. Albrook Mall
-Albrook Mall is a large, air conditioned indoor shopping center that offers a wide variety of discount stores and boutiques, as well as a food court with carousel. Be sure to check out El Costo, Oca Loca and Conway for some great deals!

These stores are magnificent for retail therapy. You can walk away with about 15 shirts for $20. Even if you wear them just once, it’s a lot cheaper than Target.

6. Opportunities
- Panama is like the Wild West of Central America. There is a huge variety of employment, business and investment opportunities just waiting to be taken advantage of. After being in Panama for almost any extended amount of time, everyone catches the entrepreneur fever.

7. Slang
-Though I don’t make it a habit to use it in my everyday speech, I must confess that I get an absolute kick out of the Panamanians’ faces when they see a full fledged gringa talking like she’s from the barrio.

8. Cable TV with ABC and CBS
-All the great things of Panama fused with Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and Grey’s Anatomy. Does it get any better?

9. Taxis
-Finally, inexpensive taxis! Taxis in Panama are abundant and relatively inexpensive, a fare costing from $1 to $2 to most location in Panama City. However, taxi meters are not typically used, and therefore it is recommended to negotiate the price before leaving. If you understand and speak Spanish, you can overhear and engage in a number of colorful conversations with drivers.

10. Cayos Zapatillas, aka. Zapatila Cay
-Zapatilla Cay is a small island located about an hour boat ride from the main Isla Colon in the Bocas del Toro province. Zapatilla Cay is astonishingly beautiful, including spectacular views, clear waters and white sand. Without a doubt, it is one of my favorite places in Panama.

11. Fireworks
-Back in the states, fireworks were reserved for the 4th of July, and some spectacles at Sea World. In Panama City, it’s not bazaar to see fire works going off every night of the week. On New Year’s, the entire city, and I mean as far as the eye can see, ignites with the colorful flashes and flickers of thousands of fireworks.

12. Piropos
-What’s a piropo? I have yet to find a direct translation that suits me. Some dictionaries translate it as “compliment,” though that is a serious understatement. Piropo is a word that stands for what men do to a pretty girl as she walks by. Flirt, not really. Torment, could be. Most Westerners would agree that this is a “Latin thing.” I generally can’t stand it and want to flip off everybody that whistles and hisses and yells “Ay mami” as I stroll along. However, on days when I roll out of bed and my hair is astray, I must say that I feel less hideous as I waltz along and still get the “Yeah baby”. I know it is done to all women. I was in a taxi once and the driver whistled and hooted at a couple of women that looked as though they were pushing 70 years old. I’m not implying that they were not attractive, but the taxi driver was about 25! Moral of the story, it’s one place to get an ego boost.

13. The Finger Wag
-You all know the finger wag, a way to indicate disapproval of something. The motion is generally carried Engaged with the index finger from left to right, taking into account the incredibly rude and demeaning Well, กระดิกนิ้วมือเป็นหลังในปานามา! วิธีที่ดีที่สุดที่จะพูดไม่เคย!

- Old and undamaged US passport
- Unexpired driver's license
- Naturalization certificate
- Recent government ID (whether federal, state or city)
- Recent military ID (if belonging to the military or a dependent)

If applying with an out-of-state identification, the applicant must submit another valid ID.

The fourth step on how to apply for a US passport is to photocopy the submitted identification documents. The photocopy should be on a white, 8 1/2 x11 inches standard paper that is clear and free of any marking. The image may be enlarged but it cannot be reduced to a smaller size.

Next step is to pay the appropriate fee for the US passport application.

It is also a requirement to submit two recent passport photos in order to apply for a passport. Make sure that the following conditions are met by the passport photos:

- Identical
- Colored
- 2x2 inches
- Shows current appearance and taken within the past six months
- Front view, full face with a white background
-The shot should show 1 to 1 and 3/8 inches of the chin up to the head.
- Photo taken should be in casual attire. No uniforms are allowed in photos except for religious clothing worn every day. Also, wearing of any headgear or hat is not allowed.

In case an applicant needs a US passport right away such as a need to travel abroad within two weeks or a requirement for foreign visa application within four weeks, schedule an appointment with the Regional Passport Agency.

The U.S. Department of State Passport Services recently increased the waiting period for passport processing causing chaos e frustration for would-be travelers. Routine passport processing which, for many years, took only six weeks to complete now requires up to 10 weeks or more. Expedited services can take up to four weeks instead of the usual two.
The increase in processing times is a response to a 44% increase in passport applications. Two factors have contributed to the greater demand. One, the months of February through April are usually high-volume months due to the fact that travelers are preparing for both Spring break and summer vacations.
Two, a new law that went into effect January 23 of this year requires all persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document, or an Alien Registration Card, Form I-551, if applicable.
Many travelers who were unaware of the increased demand applied for a passport thinking they would receive it within a few weeks. They then found themselves desperately seeking a way to get their passport in time for their scheduled trip. Following are just a few of the numerous messages U.S. Passport Service Guide has recently received.
The National Passport Information Service has representatives available from 7:00 am to 12 midnight. However, you have about as much a chance to get through as you do winning the lottery. Following are just a few of the numerous requests from desperate individuals seeking assistance to get their passports on time.
"Are you able to expedite a passport application that is already being processed? Filed for passports for my wife and me first week in January for March 18 trip. Now told they will not be ready until March 27, well after our departure date. Please advise."
"I need to know the status of three passports for my children. We are leaving the country in two weeks and I thought we would have their new passports by now. Please advise."
"My application has been processed, but will arrive too late for my trip. Can I expedite the process before 3/16? I cannot get through [to National Passport Information Service] by phone or e-mail to save my life."
"My family and I applied for passports in January and when we went online to find out the status they said they would be sent on or about March 28th. We our leaving on our vacation on March 29th. We need our passports to travel. We are leaving in 2 weeks!!! Please direct me to the right person to speak to. I've tried calling the National service but can't get through because of the large volume of calls."
Travelers who are able to get through to the National Passport Information Service and set up an appointment as a regional passport agency found themselves facing extremely long and chaotic lines.
An efficient, although costly, alternative is to contract a private passport and visa expediter. Expediting services have a special relationship with the U.S. State Department that allow them to hand deliver applications and pick up prepared passports for their clients in 10 days or less. Fees start at about $59 and can reach $169 for same day service. This does not include fees charged by the U.S. government nor overnight delivery.
While the cost of passport expediting through a private service may be expensive, it can mean the difference between actually receiving your passport before your departure date and having to cancel your trip.
